Leyland Photographic Society next meeting

A  Letter from LPS  President President: Martin Sumner president@leylandps.org.uk

To all Members

I hope this message finds you all in good health – to quote an extremely well-used phrase – during these uncertain times.
So, to update you all on the future plans for LPS, the committee has held Zoom meetings the latest of which was yesterday evening, July 29th . We discussed the current situation and, although the RAFA Club has re-opened with meetings limited to 30 people, we took the decision to delay restarting meetings until January next year at the earliest. It was also agreed that the committee would remain unchanged until the end of next season and as a result of this we agreed to accept the role of host for the ICPA until their AGM in October 2021.
The decision not to restart in September was not taken lightly but we hope you will all understand that we do not want to put any of you, or your families, at unnecessary risk. The Committee will meet again early/mid September and at that time we hope to be able to announce the start of digital competitions for members and to confirm dates.

Earlier in the year I asked members to suggest topics for our themed competitions and from the ideas submitted I have chosen the following:
Trees and Forests
Food
Sunset
Monochrome
Flowers

While on the topic of competitions I am delighted to be able to publish the results of our 2019/20 Annual Competition. Congratulations to all mentioned and thanks to Jane Lines for judging the competition. Jane has agreed to come to a meeting once we restart to offer comments and to present awards and certificates.

Stay safe and best wishes,
Martin

L&CPU Knockout 2020

The L&CPU knockout competition took place on Saturday 21st November with an online competiton judged live.

The competition used a judging system based on how many rounds an image survived, and all clubs were limited to 4 entries.

Attached are the images which were used by Leyland PS for the competition.
The Barge Captain [Peter King] and Chasing Shadows [Chris Ellison] were knocked out in round one and gained one point each. Twisleton Scar [Rob Hume] went out in round four and gained four points. White Cosmos [Sandra Eastham] went through to round six and gained six points.

The top image from Chorley gained seven points. Our total points awarded were twelve and this gained us 7th place out of 41 clubs.

Many thanks to all the participants and a good result too for the club.

To all Members

Over the weekend a few members have expressed concern about the continuing state of the country with regards to Coronavirus. I have today been in contact with the committee with regards to this issue and proposed that we suspend the rest of this season.
All these discussions took place before the Prime Minister announced ”everyone in the UK should avoid “non-essential” travel and contact with others to curb coronavirus – as the country’s death toll hit 55.”
As a result of this I must regrettably advise you all that with immediate effect the committee has agreed that the remaining meetings this season, including the AGM, will be suspended.
We will reschedule the AGM for the start of next season and will hopefully be able to carry on as normal by then.
We are in contact with the judge for our Annual Competition and hope to ask her to judge the competition and to offer comments on each entry, the results of this will be announced at our first meeting after the AGM.
During the coming weeks I hope, with the help of the committee, to arrange some on-line activities to allow members to remain in contact until September although we will probably have to rethink the Summer Comp. We will keep posting on our Facebook page and Paul will send out occasional updates by e-mail.

On behalf of the committee may I thank you for your understanding and wish you well over the coming months

Kind regards

Martin Sumner
President
